13-year-old builds $1,500 tiny house

Luke Thill, a 13-year-old middle schooler from Iowa, embarked on an incredible journey over the past year, building his own home in his family’s backyard. Driven by determination and creativity, Luke successfully constructed an 89-square-foot tiny house, showcasing his passion and resourcefulness.

To finance his project, Luke raised $1,500 by mowing lawns and helping out neighbors and friends. His inspiration came from watching tiny house videos on YouTube, which ignited a passion that ultimately motivated him to build his own.

With the support of his parents, Greg and Angie Thill, Luke was given the go-ahead to pursue his ambitious project on their four-acre property. However, they established firm guidelines, stressing the importance of financial responsibility. Luke was required to raise the necessary funds, choose materials within a set budget, and manage the entire construction process himself.
